Hounds For Adoption

At the moment, we are accepting applications from residents of Connecticut and surrounding states.

Additional fees and wait time may occur if you’re adopting into Massachusetts due to the state’s requirements.
In addition to a state-required isolation period which increases adoption wait times, dogs adopted into MA must be free of all internal and external parasites.
As a large majority of dogs coming to us have a resistant strain of hookworms, the wait time for a dog for MA applicants has increased.
WAG appreciates your patience and understanding as we do our best to follow these state guidelines.

Moe will be turning 3 in March and is quite the big boy!

Topping off at 78lb when he arrived in CT, Moe will need a strong family member who is not afraid to teach him house manners (he’s a BIG counter surfer!). Moe is calm for his age, but easily gets excited with people he knows and when he meets new friends - dogs and humans alike. Moe can get competitive around other male dogs at first, but will settle with time and patience. He does great as an only dog or with calm, laid back females. He does not do well with males who will assert their dominance. Moe like to be the top dog! Moe would LOVE a fenced in yard, but would do well without one with an active family if leash walked frequently. He would make a great hiking partner!

He otherwise is a big hunk of sweetness! He loves to be pet and he’s a big leaner! We have not cat tested him, but he is doing well with the 30lb male retriever in his foster home and we are told he does great with kids of any age. He is a big sweetheart and his kennel mom, Shelby, at the farm in KS would love to have periodic updates on him!

Moe was recently neutered with WAG's vet and is ready for his forever home! Moe is up to date on vaccines and heartworm/fecal negative. Moe is available to adopt in CT and surrounding states.

Lucas (Ace Buccaneer) retired early after unfortunately breaking his right hock in his last race.

It was casted to heal, but was still bothering him. Upon arriving to WAG, x-rays showed that the leg needed to be repaired surgically. The repair appeared to go well and he began putting more weight on it and seemed to be healing. He began receiving physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and laser therapy to help him in his recovery. Despite all of our best efforts, Lucas managed to re-fracture his leg, and it was determined to be in Lucas' best interest to amputate. His amputation is scheduled for 1/24. He will be on medical hold until fully healed from his amputation and his foster believes he is ready physically and mentally to move on to a forever home.

Lucas is SUCH a happy boy! He can hardly hold still and he loves to bounce and run around the yard! He’s having a tough time understanding that he needs to rest to heal! It is unknown if Lucas is cat or small dog safe and he needs to be evaluated around children. But he is a big sweetheart, so he would most likely do fine around older children.

Workable

Mickey is a youngster, but eager to please.

He has a lot of energy right now as he warms to his foster home, and recovers from his neuter.
He does still need a little leash work, but he can do stairs and a full night without incident.
He sings lovely songs while crated if you let him, but does calm down when asked to.

Mickey is cat safe - but has not been fully introduced to small dogs yet.

Mickey should be ready for adoption after 12/9

Walker (WK By Pass) was returned earlier in the year for not getting along with the new baby in the family. This is the second time for Walker getting returned, so we’re dedicated to make the next family his perfect match.

Walker is cat and small dog safe and previously lived as an only dog, though he gets along with the calmer greyhound in his foster home. Walker will be turning 10 in January and just had a dental cleaning. He lost some teeth and will most likely need another dental next year and will unfortunately lose more.

Walker’s ideal home would be one with no kids - no kids living there, no chance of having kids live there, and no kids visiting. Walker is very stressed by children, regardless of age. He also has some resource guarding tendencies, so he should not be allowed on couches or human beds and have his own area to retreat to when needed. Walker does now currently have a two time bite history, and the family needs to know that and take that into consideration when inquiring about Walker. This is why we will be extra diligent in his placement. Please PM us for more details.

Walker has excellent leash and house manners. He loves to sleep, take short and slow walks, he does not counter surf and is 100% potty trained. He does sometimes prefer to go potty on the leash because it is what he’s used to. Walker does not need a yard that is fenced in, but cannot be let off leash at all without one.

Walker is available for adoption in CT and surrounding New England states.
